Do you ever feel unworthy because you realize how much you fall short of God’s standards?

The truth is, none of us measures up to the perfect standard of a perfectly holy God.

So, what can we do? Is there any hope for us? Imperfect, sinful us?

Yes, there is hope!

If you’re a committed follower of Christ – if you’ve repented of your sins and accepted Jesus’ death at Calvary as the punishment for your sins – then Romans 8:1(ESV) is true for you.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Let me be clear. God absolutely hates our sin and the defiance it represents. Yet, He continually extends mercy to us.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

God also hates the way sin devastates our lives. He cannot tolerate rebellion against His Word, but He loves His children with an everlasting love. After all, He sent His Son to die for our sins – not out of contempt, but out of love.

I don’t want the devil to deceive me (even with one thought) into believing my heavenly Father would reject me. Obviously, God isn’t pleased with many things I do. My sin grieves Him deeply, but grief isn’t rejection.

Rather than allowing the devil to deceive us, we must grasp what Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross reveals about us – about you. What His excruciating death says about our sins – and what it demonstrates about our Savior’s deep love for us.

Consider spending time reading and meditating on Romans 6 and 8. It will help you grow in your understanding of the profundity of God’s love for you. Don’t rush through these powerful chapters. Spend as much time as it takes to really dig in while asking God to give you a deeper understanding of why Jesus suffered and died for you, personally.

Realizing how deeply He loves us could change the way we see ourselves. The more we glean from Romans 6 and 8, the more we’ll appreciate our indisputable worth in Christ, despite our imperfect, sinful selves.
