We all face seasons of doubt due to financial and health challenges, depression, uncertainty, problems with loved ones or recurring sin that tests our resolve, no matter how hard we try.

During trials, responding in a Christlike way can seem nearly impossible. We ask God for strength, but frequently walk away frustrated, wondering why we’re not maturing in our Christian walk as quickly as we hoped.

What’s the missing link between how we respond to trials and the faith needed to live a truly transformed life?

Could it be that we lack a real appreciation for God’s Word?

I want to share something simple that can totally transform any moment. I’ve started carrying a Scripture Memory Card (SMC) in my pocket or purse – a verse or two, written on an index card that I can keep with me everywhere I go.

I find myself pulling out my SMCs all the time. I’ll sneak in a quick read while standing in a long line at the grocery store, waiting for the light to turn green at an intersection or while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room.

The impact this practice has had on me is undeniable.

When I don’t use my SMCs, I’m more stressed, impatient and reactive. When I do, I experience God’s peace more quickly, make better decisions and respond to others with gentleness.

God’s greatest desire for us is that we draw near to Him. To know Him. To trust Him. He wants us to experience spiritual and emotional transformation through our relationship with Him.

Let’s turn to God’s Word throughout our day, especially when we’re feeling worried or when we’ve been waiting “forever” for that miracle.

When faced with a tough decision, let’s remember what God has already told us. And when temptation tries its old trick and says, “Just this one time,” let’s hide God’s Word in our heart and let it help us fight sin (See Psalm 119:11).

Jeremiah 29:12-13 (ESV) says,

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

If you’re tired of your lack of faith but don’t know how to grow stronger …

Start with something simple: pick up your Scripture Memory Card and read the words God is speaking to you.

Perhaps the change you seek won’t come from trying harder or believing more, but from drawing closer to God. Maybe carrying a single verse with you will become the quiet place where God reveals His faithfulness, His wisdom, His power, and His love to you.
