How would your life be different if you understood that God loved you, despite your imperfections and feelings of unworthiness?

If you truly understood – better yet, actually experienced God’s love – your view of yourself would change. His mercy would replace your crippling shame, making it easier to recover from destructive choices.

Many doubt God’s love, especially when they’re disappointed with how “life” is treating them. Some have endured so many setbacks that they wonder whether God even exists. They assume that their concerns aren’t important to Him. That they’re not worth His time.

I’ve been there. After years of asking God to deliver me from eating disorders, I couldn’t understand why He didn’t come through sooner – before it destroyed my marriage and separated me from my children. After years of defeat, I gave in to the lie that God was disappointed in my choices … and therefore disappointed in me.

But I was wrong.

What if you’re wrong, too? Don’t embrace the discouraging thoughts echoing in your heart. Replace them with truth.

Satan is a liar. What if, despite the lies the devil tells you that you’re not worth loving, that God doesn’t exist, or some other nonsense, you discover that God is the personification of love? And to prove it, he loved the world so much “that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 ESV).

God is real. And, I’m thrilled to remind you, God loves you. Unreservedly.

We have a choice: To believe the devil – the father of lies – who hates us. Or to believe God, the author of Truth, Who has already proven His love for us.

God made us. He died and rose from the dead for us. His love never ceases – no matter what we’ve done. Even if we reject Him, He doesn’t reject us.

How many more years will you remain miserable, trying to do everything in your own strength instead of placing your faith in Christ?

I hope you’ll come “to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19 ESV). That you’ll be so convinced of His love that you’ll believe, beyond what your mind tells you, how special you are to God.

The more time you spend talking with Him and reading the Bible (His Word), the more you’ll experience His love.

For years, I didn’t think God loved me – at least not as much as He loved everyone else. But today I know better; As my heavenly Father has done (and continues to do) for me, He will reveal His love for you … despite your imperfections and feelings of unworthiness.
