Will You Be My Valentine, Mr. Candidate?
If you’re running for office and want me to be head over heels for you, I think you should know that I’m very attracted to strength, good judgment and humility.
I love strong candidates who are sharp, decisive, and even formidable when necessary. And if you’re also smart enough to seek wise counsel (especially from God) on a regular basis, I wouldn’t be able to stop talking about you to all my friends.
I long for a candidate who’s levelheaded, especially in the midst of a crisis, one who understands what’s important. My respect for you will grow each time you choose to do the right thing for the right reasons. My heart will swell with pride as you prove to be a man of your word.
You’ll sweep me off my feet if you’re willing to work with others in a bipartisan effort. But you’ll break my heart every time you denigrate someone, especially when they disagree with you.
I dream about a candidate who will keep me and those I love safe. I want you to “check the locks” so intruders can’t get in and cause us harm.
You don’t have to spoil me by spending money on a bunch of stuff I don’t need. I’d rather have someone who cares about our financial future than about granting favors.
Finally, others will be sure to envy me if I find a candidate who will actually listen when I tell him about the issues that matter to me – and won’t forget how important I am to him. After all, I could have easily went with someone else.
Since I’m happily married to Bert, in lieu of giving you my heart, I’ll give you my vote. Above all, I’ll commit to praying for you to “be filled with the knowledge of [God’s] will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9).
Will you be my candidate?
(NOTE: I addressed this “Valentine” to male candidates who are running for office. However; I want the same traits for female candidates.)
What about you?
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this post. (Others might also benefit from your comment.)

Sheryl I agree with everything you said. The traits you mentioned in your candidate. Is exactly what I want in my candidate. Yes male or female. God bless America again.
Amen!! Thank you, Susan. Let’s pray, pray, pray for the United States of America ~ and for all those running for office.
Right on the mark for sure, Sheryl! A man or a woman of integrity who is guided by the Lord for sure in all their decisions! One who relies wholeheartedly on the “King of Kings” Thanks Sheryl!
“And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.” Daniel 2:21
Amen! Perfect scripture to support the premise of my post. Thank you, Kim!
Thank you, CROSSMAP, for making “Mr. Candidate, Will You Be My Valentine?” an Editor’s Pic!
How well you boiled down the issues and I would vote for such a candidate. Unfortunately, I feel like I am continually asked to vote/choose between candidates that do not have my views or my best interest at heart. Thank for eloquently wording thus blog.
Good afternoon, Marilyn! WELCOME to Today Can Be Different.
Voting can be a bit challenging when you feel your interests aren’t being recognized.
All the more reason to pray for the candidates and vote for those who most closely follow our values, right?
Thank you for the compliment, Marilyn and it was wonderful seeing you at our monthly Women of the Word meeting last Tuesday!
